Editorial Guidelines

Last updated: September 28, 2026

hustle&passive exists to answer one question honestly: which ways of earning extra income are worth your time? These guidelines explain how every guide is researched, what the numbers mean, how the site makes money and how mistakes get fixed.

Who writes the guides

Every guide is written and edited by Abdelaziz, a geotechnical engineer with experience on projects in France, Morocco and internationally. Engineering is a job where you test assumptions and check the numbers before anything gets built, and the same approach runs through this site. You can read more on the About page.

The three numbers in every guide

Every side hustle or income idea on the site comes with the same three figures, so you can compare them fairly:

  • Realistic pay: a typical range, not the best case. When a figure is gross (before fuel, fees or tax), the guide says so.
  • Hours per week: the time the work realistically takes, including setup, not just the time you are paid for.
  • Startup cost: what you need to spend before the first dollar comes in, from $0 to tools, stock or ads.

Figures are in US dollars unless a guide says otherwise. Your results will depend on your city, skills and the hours you put in, and every guide treats its numbers as a starting point, not a promise.

How we research

  • First-hand testing where possible. When I have used a tool or tried an idea myself, the guide says so and explains what happened, including what did not work.
  • Primary sources first. Pay, fees and rules come from the platforms themselves (help centers, fee pages and published rates), official statistics such as the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, and earnings data from trackers that measure real payouts.
  • Every figure is linked. Numbers link to their source so you can check them. When no reliable figure exists, the guide says so instead of guessing.
  • No hype. No income screenshots presented as typical, no “get rich quick” framing, and no invented reviews or testimonials.

Keeping guides up to date

Pay rates, fees and platform rules change often. Guides are reviewed and updated when something important changes, and each one shows the date it was last updated at the top. When a figure goes out of date and cannot be confirmed, it is replaced or removed.

How the site makes money

hustle&passive is free to read. It earns money through affiliate links: if you sign up for a tool through a link here, such as web hosting, an online store builder or an SEO tool, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Articles that contain affiliate links say so at the top.

A commission never decides what makes a list or where it ranks. When a free option does the job, the guide says so. The full list of relationships is in the affiliate disclosure.

How we use AI

AI tools help with parts of the work, such as organizing research, outlining and editing for clarity. They never replace the checks: every guide is reviewed, fact-checked against its sources and edited by a human before it is published, and every figure is verified against the source it links to.

Corrections

If you spot something wrong or out of date, please tell me. Corrections are made as quickly as possible, and significant changes to a figure or recommendation are noted in the guide.
